Pete was sent though an auction in Penn. He was under weight and very skinny. He was bought by a killer buyer and would be sent to Canada for slaughter.
I paid his bail and he was moved to a barn in Maryland for quarantine.
He stayed at this amazing barn for 21 days and received great care and a clean bill of health to travel.
He got his inspection for travel on 1-12-2021 he arrived in Colorado on 1-19-2021. Then the process began to get him healthy. I slowing started him on the Dynamite Foundation free minerals and dyna pro. May 1st he was seen by the equine dentist and his teeth were good and they thought he was between 12 and 16 years of age. Now I could but a bit in his mouth, but he was still so skinny I couldn’t line drive him for some time. Littleton Large Animal Clinic came out July 16th for a second opinion on his eyes. ERU both eyes and mild, I had to give him Equioxx for 14 days then stop for a week and repeat. He is not having this problem at this time.
Now Pete is ready for his forever home he has gained weight. Would be happiest with a group of horses. I was working full time until Oct and did not put much time into riding. Now he has had a lot of time off in rehab and is not that excited about working, but would be happy to go with his new equine friends.
Pete has a new owner, Tricia. He lives with five other horses and three donkeys. He has a happy ending to his life!
I just hate how most horse owners think it is ok to send their horse to an auction when they are of no more use to them. Here in Colorado, there is a killer buyer that has people that send in horse from five states. His wife posts the horses and tries to find local buyer. Some are saved, I have been up there and so many ship to Mexico. This week as I write this there are three mares with foals on their sides in the kill pen!
Many folks think it is a good thing that we shut down the horse slaughter in the US. But not really, in the US they were treated better. From Colorado it is twenty hours to Mexico and an additional five hours to slaughter. I won’t tell you what that is like! But you can ask me. You can also ask about the horses out of Canada to Japan! I am glad that I saved Pete!
